Privacy Policy
Subscriptions for Early Canadiana Online (ECO) CanadianaPlus collection
Certain personal information is required to sign on a subscriber, send out renewals, and for general communication. This confidential information is for Canadiana.org’s internal use only and is retained for the duration of the subscription. When a subscriber cancels, the identifying information is deleted.
Appropriate safeguards are in place to ensure the security, integrity and privacy of personally-identifiable information about subscribers.
Names of subscribing institutions are posted on our web site.
The subscription survey is optional and is intended strictly for internal use by Canadiana.org only.
ECO web site
When you visit Early Canadiana Online, we automatically collect information about your visit including: your computer’s IP address, the date and time of your request, the search terms you enter, and the pages and documents you view. If you are a CanadianaPlus subscriber, we identify and log the subscription under which you are using ECO. For personal subscriptions, this means we can identify you personally, but if you are using an institutional subscription (for example, at a university) we only identify you as being a user from that institution.
We do not use this data in a way which attempts to identify you personally, except when providing technical support and diagnosing technical problems. Where we do discover your personal identity as a result of performing these functions, we do not keep permanent records linking your identity to a particular set of transactions.
We provide subscribing institutions with aggregate anonymous usage metrics, but we do not provide any information about specific sessions or any information which can be linked back to any particular individual or computer.
If you are a subscriber and use the multi-page PDF request feature, you must provide an email address in order to receive confirmation and notice messages. This email address is logged and could be used to personally identify you with that particular session. We use this data only for internal statistical reporting, technical support, and troubleshooting purposes. We do not provide any third party, including your subscribing institution, with any data which includes your email address, and we do not send email to these addresses apart from the automatically generated confirmation and notice messages that are part of the normal PDF request process.
